Pity the manufacturer who tries to keep a secret. With internet sleuths working 24/7, it’s become almost impossible to keep even the most clandestine vehicle development under wraps. Case in point: the new Volvo V90 wagon. While most of the stateside automotive media was focused on the 2016 Chicago auto show, the Swedish website Teknikens Värld (motto: allt om bilen, or “everything about the car”) casually published some images of the upcoming V90, which is slated to make its international debut next month in Geneva. Now that the damage is done, it’d be foolish not to take a look, right?
- -Although the site purports to previously have seen some grainier images of the V90 wagon, this is the first time it has published these relatively clean versions of the car in T6 AWD trim. As such, you’ll have to give us a moment to collect ourselves, as we haven’t been this excited about a wagon since, well, two years ago when Volvo displayed the two-door Concept Estate that previewed the V90. Viewed from any angle, the V90 is a study in elegant proportions and the tasteful melding of shapes.
- -Based as it is on the S90 sedan that debuted in Detroit, the V90 wagon gets the same tasteful fascia. Viewed from the rear, the V90 looks robust yet refined, the taillights that climb the C-pillar executed with particular finesse.

We expect the V90 wagon in T6 AWD trim to get the turbocharged and supercharged 2.0-liter engine paired with an eight-speed automatic and all-wheel drive that is currently in use in the XC90 and also is slated for the S90. It’s also likely to include the S90’s standard semi-autonomous technology. An all-wheel-drive plug-in hybrid may also be available, but as with the S90, many questions remain regarding powertrains, four- and front-wheel-drive availability, and, most important, the possibility of a Polestar edition. Until those details emerge, put on a bib and direct your eyes to the photos here.
