Amid all the four-wheeled fabulosity of Monterey Car Week, the Concours d’LeMons stands out as a breath of musty, foul-smelling air. The dirty, the rusty, and the decrepit are celebrated here—making it a necessary ballast against the gleaming perfection elsewhere on the peninsula. Plus, it’s held at a public park—and there’s no admission fee, thus making it well worth your time.
- -Before even entering the show, our eyes were accosted by a Humber Super Snipe wagon and a chop-top Rambler, participants on the Tour d’LeMons—which is much like the Tour d’Elegance for the Pebble Beach cars. Except different.
- -We recoiled at a crusty mid-1980s Cadillac Eldorado for sale ($1000) at the curb and wondered as to the nefarious purpose of a double-decker London bus with its doors open and no one inside.
