Editors’ Picks: Our Favorites from the 2016 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance

-The Concours d’Élégance at Pebble Beach once again lived up to its billing as the most over-the-top classic-car spectacle on the automotive calendar. There were 27 automotive categories, as well as one for motorcycles. In addition to the expected—pre- and postwar classics, American and European, open and closed; antiques, open and closed; preservation cars, pre- and postwar; Duesenbergs; Rolls-Royces (two classes); Ferraris (two classes); and a class devoted to custom coachwork (by Chapron)—attendees this year overdosed on Lamborghini Miuras, Bizzarrinis, Ford GTs, custom-bodied Fiats, 1930s Indy cars, Delahayes (two classes), and BMWs (three classes). From this the sea of automotive perfection, the C/D team plucked out a dozen favorites—including one prescient pick. In his honor and because this 1938 custom-bodied special edition is so impeccably turned out, it’s my top pick at Pebble Beach. —Don Sherman-1938 Horch 853 Erdmann and Rossi Special Roadster SS 02-1938 Delahaye 165 cabriolet-1938 Delahaye 165 cabriolet-1938 Packard 1605 Super Eight Bohman & Schwartz convertible sedan-1938 Packard 1605 Super Eight Bohman & Schwartz convertible sedan-1953 Fiat 1100 Allemano cabriolet-1953 Fiat 1100 Allemano cabriolet-1962 Ferrari 250 GTE police car-1962 Ferrari 250 GTE police car-1965 Ford GT40 P/1015 Mk II-1965 Ford GT40 P/1015 Mk II-1966 Bizzarrini P538 Italdesign Manta concept-1966 Bizzarrini P538 Italdesign Manta concept-1971 Lamborghini Miura SV Bertone Coupe-1971 Lamborghini Miura SV Bertone Coupe--
