Kia is recalling 219,800 Sedona minivans in the U.S. for rusting hood latches, according to filings with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
--
The secondary latch that secures the hood after the primary latch pops it open can rust and bind, in a similar way that affected several hundred thousand Nissan models under recent recalls. If the hood isn’t fully closed and the secondary latch is stuck in the open position, the hood may suddenly open at speed. The second-generation 2006–2014 Sedona is affected. It is unclear at this point if the Hyundai Entourage, the van’s platform-mate, is under a similar recall.

Dealers will replace the latch in 27 states and Washington, D.C. Elsewhere, they will inspect the latch, lubricate it, and replace it only if needed. Owners will receive notifications in the mail by the end of July.
