Subaru isn’t charging much more money for the updated version of its popular Forester SUV, but it also didn’t change much. The 2017 Forester, which features mildly revised styling, a few new features, and additional sound deadening, costs between $125 and $525 more than the 2016 model, depending on trim level.

The base-model Forester, the 2.5i, is now $23,245 with its standard six-speed manual transmission, an increase of $225; as before, opting for the CVT automatic costs $1000 extra. The $26,145 Forester 2.5i Premium also offers a manual as standard, while the CVT version starts at $26,645. The CVT-only 2.5i Limited, at $29,645, and 2.5i Touring, at $31,645, are $425 and $525 more than last year. All of these models are powered by a 2.5-liter boxer four-cylinder and come standard with all-wheel drive. CVT-equipped 2.5i Foresters also get a slight fuel-economy bump, with EPA city ratings rising 2 mpg to 26 mpg.

The more powerful turbocharged Forester 2.0XT also returns for 2017, with price increases of $125 for the 2.0XT Premium and $525 for the top-of-the-line 2.0XT Touring. One significant change for the Touring model is the addition of Subaru’s brake-based torque-vectoring system from the WRX when you opt for the EyeSight batch of active-safety features. Both Touring models can be had with an exclusive Sepia Bronze Metallic exterior hue and a Saddle Brown leather interior trim package that’s new for 2017.

Speaking of EyeSight, the 2017 Forester receives an updated version with new features including lane-keep assist, blind-spot warning, and rear cross-traffic alert to complement the previous adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, and forward collision warning. As before, EyeSight is bundled with different packages depending on trim level, and costs between $1595 and $2145. It’s offered on all trim levels except for the 2.5i and the manual 2.5i Premium.

If these minor changes make the Forester more appealing to you, know that you’ll have to wait until late summer before the revised 2017 models start arriving at dealerships.
